When You Give a Child a Chance, You Change a LifeDiscover the journeys you’ve helped rewrite.
Anjali
Every evening at a busy street corner, Anjali helps her mother run a small tea and chop stall. While her mother works to support the family, Anjali takes care of the stall and her younger siblings.
With no father to lean on, her mother became the family’s sole provider — working tirelessly to feed three children. Anjali, being the eldest, felt the unspoken pressure to grow up fast. School was never the priority — survival was.
When she joined Gyandeepak Foundation, Anjali was reserved, unsure, and scoring just 43% in school.
Every morning starts early for Anand and Aman Yadav. At dawn, they walk 45 minutes from their home in Sukantapalli (outskirts of Kolkata, West Bengal) to the nearest railway station. From there, a local train takes them nearly 60 kilometers to Ballygunge, where they attend a govt school and then Gyandeepak Foundation’s after-school program.
It’s a journey that many would call exhausting — but for these two brothers, it’s a step toward something bigger.
Every morning, before leaving for school, 13-year-old Sunika helps her mother with household chores. Her mother works as a caretaker, managing the family’s needs with limited resources, and Sunika plays a big role in keeping things running smoothly.
When she joined Gyandeepak Foundation four years ago, Sunika was quiet and unsure of herself. Academic concepts felt difficult, and she often hesitated to speak in class. But regular after-school support and encouragement from her teachers changed everything.
When Debashis Das first heard about Gyandeepak Foundation, it wasn’t through posters or campaigns — it was through a friend who told him about a place that offered free, quality education. Back then, Debashis was relying on paid tuition his family could barely afford. Curious and hopeful, he showed up at GDF the very next day — only to find out that admissions had closed.
Four years ago, Razi joined Gyandeepak Foundation as a quiet boy with mixed feelings. Life wasn’t easy for his family. His mother works as a tailor, his father makes bags, and every day was about managing basic needs. Growing up in a modest home, Razi learned responsibility early — helping his parents while balancing schoolwork.
Meet Sourav Kumar Roy, a 15-year-old with big dreams and an even bigger heart. Sourav holds a special place in the story of Gyandeepak Foundation — he was one of our very first students, joining us back in 2014 when GDF was just starting its journey. From that day to today, he has grown into an inspiration for everyone around him.
Ravi’s story didn’t begin with colour—it began in silence, struggle, and a classroom where he couldn’t understand a single word.
Before he held a paintbrush with confidence, Ravi held silence in his eyes. Growing up in a low-income household, opportunities were few and dreams were often dismissed. He studied in a Hindi medium government school, where resources were limited and concepts were barely grasped. Like many children around him, Ravi was drifting—quiet, uncertain, and left behind.
There was a time when Bedika didn’t see the point of going to school.
She sat at the back of the class, disconnected, disheartened, and almost ready to give up. She had no academic foundation, no support system at home, and no real reason to believe in herself. Every subject felt impossible. Every test, a failure waiting to happen. Quietly, Bedika began slipping through the cracks—on the verge of dropping out.
