With the unwavering support of mentors — especially Paromita Ma’am, a certified educator from the London School of Music — Debashis began gaining confidence. Slowly, his command over English improved, his self-belief grew, and he began to shine.
He became known for his curiosity — his love for animals earned him the nickname “Animal Encyclopedia.” Whether it’s YouTube videos on world facts or staying updated on current events, Debashis is always eager to learn.
In the years that followed, he achieved one milestone after another. He scored 80% in Class 10, then made a thoughtful decision to pursue commerce — choosing Cost and Taxation over traditional subjects because he valued practical learning.
Through GDF’s career camp, he interacted with a Chartered Accountant, which shaped his decision to pursue a career in finance. He later scored 97% in Class 11, and finally, a proud 88% in his Higher Secondary (Class 12) exams.
But the proudest moment of all?
Debashis recently secured admission to St. Xavier’s College, Park Street — one of Kolkata’s most prestigious institutions — with a 100% scholarship.
And his journey into the world of finance is already well underway — he has successfully cleared the CA Foundation and is now preparing for CA Inter, determined to become a Chartered Accountant.
His journey hasn’t just been about academics. At GDF, Debashis blossomed into a true all-rounder — winning first place in public speaking and art & craft competitions, making a handcrafted table lamp under the “Make in India” theme, and even teaching himself to solve a Rubik’s Cube in two weeks.
He also gave back by teaching General Knowledge classes and helping with admin support at the centre — becoming a role model for many young students just starting their journeys.
He says it best:
“I never imagined I’d get into my dream college. GDF believed in me when I didn’t even believe in myself.”
