After the success of our Gangdhara Centre in Madhubani, we knew our work in rural Bihar had only just begun. Many nearby villages were still untouched by structured learning, and one such place was Sonpatahi—a small, remote village grappling with poor literacy rates, gender disparity, and minimal access to educational resources.

The Challenges We Faced
Launching in Sonpatahi brought its own set of hurdles:
No trained local teachers to run classes
Minimal infrastructure and lack of electricity in some parts
Convincing parents, who saw education as secondary to livelihood
Ensuring continuity in an area with seasonal migration patterns
But at GDF, challenges aren’t roadblocks—they’re reasons to dig deeper.
How We Made It Happen
Teacher Recruitment & Training: We identified local young women and trained them through GDF’s online Teacher Training Program, making them confident educators and community role models.
Community Engagement: Our team worked tirelessly to build trust—through home visits, parent meetings, and moral education drives.
Curriculum Delivery: Using GDF’s structured curriculum and daily lesson plans, we ensured consistency and quality from day one.
Growth and Impact
Started in 2022 with a handful of students; now 90+ children regularly attend classes at Sonpatahi.
Created employment opportunities for local women, empowering them with financial independence and leadership roles.
Reduced dropout rates by providing after-school academic support and value-based learning.
Inspired neighboring villages to request similar centres, proving the scalability of GDF’s model.
Kushmar: a new village centre and a new story
With the rising popularity of Gangdhara centre of Gyan Deepak, its nearby villages have started to replicate the centre model in their own villages. Kushmar village being an example of this. Local teachers of the village have been absorbed, given basic training, signed an MoU and the 3rd rural centre of GDF started on 15th August,2025 at Kushmar.

More Than a Classroom
Sonpatahi is not just a centre—it’s a promise fulfilled. For children who once believed education was out of reach, it now means books, laughter, and a future filled with possibilities. For parents, it’s a newfound hope that their children can break free from generational limitations. And for the young women leading these classes, it’s a chance to stand tall as educators and changemakers in their own community.
