Sunika: From Helping Hands at Home to Dreaming Big

Every morning, before leaving for school, 13-year-old Sunika helps her mother with household chores. Her mother works as a caretaker, managing the family’s needs with limited resources, and Sunika plays a big role in keeping things running smoothly.

When she joined Gyandeepak Foundation four years ago, Sunika was quiet and unsure of herself. Academic concepts felt difficult, and she often hesitated to speak in class. But regular after-school support and encouragement from her teachers changed everything.

One incident stands out. During an environmental awareness session at GDF, students were asked to share ideas on reducing waste. While many spoke about planting trees, Sunika surprised everyone by presenting a simple yet practical plan for waste segregation in her locality. It showed her confidence, her clarity of thought, and her genuine interest in creating change.

Today, Sunika loves Geography, Environmental Studies, and creative activities like painting and writing. She participates actively in class, brings new ideas to projects, and is seen as a curious, thoughtful learner by her teachers.

Her dream? To become an IAS officer. Inspired by Swami Vivekananda, Sunika wants to build a better future for her family and help others like her access opportunities for growth.

For Sunika, every day is about balancing responsibility and ambition — helping at home, excelling in school, and working steadily toward her goals. Her journey is shaped by the values of resilience, service, and growth, deeply rooted in her family and nurtured by the Gyandeepak community. Through GDF’s support, she has not only improved academically but has found her voice, her confidence, and her path.

Sunika says:
“I want to grow up and help others — just like my mother helps me, and GDF helps so many children like me.”

Sunika’s story is a beautiful reminder that determination, when met with opportunity and love, can spark extraordinary futures. And she’s just one of hundreds whose journeys are unfolding every day at Gyandeepak Foundation.
