Sourav first joined GDF in Class 4, introduced by his best friend, Kailash. He still remembers feeling nervous that day — unsure of what to expect — but all those worries disappeared in the warmth of our classrooms and the guidance of our teachers.

When Sourav started, he was studying at Dakshin Calcutta Arya Vidyalaya, a Hindi-medium government school. But his consistent academic performance opened new doors for him. With GDF’s support, he achieved something remarkable — a successful transition to National High School, an English-medium school. For Sourav, this wasn’t just a change in schools; it was a change in opportunities, confidence, and his future.

But what truly sets Sourav apart is his spirit of determination. Recently, in a conversation with our founder, he said,
“I want to break my senior Biky’s record and score more than 80% in Madhyamik.”
That’s Sourav — always setting the bar higher for himself and inspiring others to do the same.

Life hasn’t always been easy. As the eldest son, Sourav shoulders big responsibilities at home. When his mother was hospitalized, he stepped up — managing the house, taking care of his siblings, and ensuring their studies continued. Every day, he escorts his three younger siblings to school and their classes at GDF, never once complaining.

Sourav’s motto is simple:
“You should never say no.”
And he lives by it. From academics to extracurriculars, he gives everything his best. His achievements speak for themselves — rank holder every year, multiple prizes in English competitions, and even a triple win in athletics, taking home cups in 200m sprint, 200m hurdles, and 400m race.

What sets Sourav apart is his discipline and leadership. He often wakes up at 4:00 AM to manage his schedule and never says no to work. Known as a highly responsible and dependable student, Sourav is a true asset to the GDF community. The admin team often relies on him because they know that if they delegate a task to Sourav, he will go to any length to complete it — no matter what.

Beyond academics and sports, Sourav is equally passionate about creativity and community work. He learned video editing through the Samta program, created engaging content, and actively participated in GDF initiatives like distributing umbrellas and certificates to morning vendors — showing gratitude in action.

Sourav loves festivals, especially GDF’s Durga Puja pandal hopping tradition, and values the ration distribution of nutritious foods like sattu and chana — initiatives that promote health among students.

Ask him what GDF means to him, and his answer is simple yet powerful:
“It’s my second home.”

Today, Sourav aspires to join the Indian Army after completing his 12th — a dream that reflects his courage, discipline, and sense of duty. His story is proof that education isn’t just about books; it’s about building character, resilience, and leadership.
